Smash Tacos

Is there a better combo than burgers and tacos? Smash tacos – the Tiktok sensation – made plant based with vegan mince and cheese are super easy but beyond moreish! A fun family meal that’ll have everyone coming back for more!
Have you caught this trend yet? Smash tacos or smash burgers dependent on how much of a taco purist you are! I discovered these via a random Facebook reel and just HAD to make them vegan. I’ve made these a few times and used a couple of different vegan mince products to make the patties. The mince itself is pretty bland, it’s the herbs, spices, cheese and red onion that give all the flavour. The tacos are then layered up with crisp lettuce, avocado and some creamy tzatziki sauce.
I absofluffinglutely recommend these. Honestly, couldn’t get them into my mouth fast enough. The combination of ‘meaty’ flavour, melty vegan cheese and the toppings. Oh and just how quick and easy they are – make up for how messy they are to eat. IS there a way to eat tacos like a lady? Or should I just resign myself forever to wearing a good portion of it?
How to make cheeseburger tacos:
Start by mixing the vegan mince with garlic powder, smoked paprika, (optional) chilli powder, dried oregano, grated cheese and salt and pepper. I do this in a large bowl and use my hands.
Shape the mixture into 8 even sized balls.
Heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan or on a griddle plate and place on a burger ball – or balls dependent on the size of what you’re cooking on!
Immediately cover the ball(s) with one tortilla per ball and flatten slightly with your hand. Then use a flat bottomed saucepan the size of the taco and squash down the meatball.
Cook for 4-5 minutes, flip and cook for 1 more minute
Lift onto a plate and top with shredded lettuce, sliced avocado and tzatziki sauce. Or toppings of your choice. This is YOUR heavenly smash taco, so you do you.
The combination of crispy burger with the creamy avocado, crunchy lettuce and tzatziki sauce means I will definitely be making these again and again.
